Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Functional magnetic resonance (fMR) imaging is a relatively new technology that is helping researchers understand the physiology of cognition, memory, emotion and creativity. Differences in blood-oxygenation-level dependent contrast are the physiological basis for this imaging procedure. Clinical applications range from identifying epileptogenic foci to providing evidence for the physical origins of mental illnesses such as depression and schizophrenia.
